The Vegas Golden Knights are your new 2020 Stanley Cup betting favorites, updated to 7/1 odds at Westgate LV SuperBook to win the title.
The Pacific Division leaders with 54 points (24-15-6), the Golden Knights began the 2019-20 campaign tied as the second betting choice with the Bruins and Maple Leafs at 10/1 odds, before a pedestrian start saw the number lengthen to 12/1 by December.
Since Nov. 17, the team is 15-6-3, leading the NHL with 33 points in this stretch. A string of solid outings at T-Mobile Arena is also fueling the run up the oddsboard, the Knights losing just one of their last eight on home ice.
Are the Knights false favorites, however? Their performances against top-rated teams has proven so-so, going 8-9-4 versus opponents currently qualifying for the playoffs. Las Vegas has been outscored by a combined 75-60 in these matchups.
Last season’s Stanley Cup runners-up, the Bruins, and preseason favorite Tampa Bay Lightning sit as the next two betting options at 8/1 odds.
Like Vegas, Tampa slipped from 6/1 to 12/1 nearly three weeks ago after a slow start to the 2019-20 campaign, but it is catching fire of late. The Lightning have rattled off seven wins in a row, outscoring opponents by a 4.1 to 2.1 average during the run.
The Bruins topped the board at 6/1 prior to the Holidays but are 4-11 in their last 15 contests, only two losses coming via shootout.
Rounding out the top five betting choices are the last two Stanley Cup winners: the Blues and Capitals at 10/1 odds.
The injury-riddled Chicago Blackhawks, which sit last in the Central Division with 44 points (19-18-6), saw their odds go from 300/1 to 100/1 to 200/1 over the last two weeks. A last-to-first, longshot run is not impossible in today’s NHL, evident by the Blues’ championship effort last season. St. Louis traded as high as 300/1 odds to win the 2018-19 Cup last December before turning its improbable season around.
