While some oddsmakers price Philip Rivers as a realistic candidate for MVP of 2020 NFL season, the Colts’ new quarterback is a longshot at most sportsbooks.

As of Monday, Rivers is listed at 33/1 odds on DraftKings’ MVP futures board, which makes him the 11th betting choice for the award. FoxBet, on the other end of the spectrum, is dealing Rivers at 125/1 odds.

Not much separates Rivers from Jacoby Brissett, now the No. 2 QB on Indianapolis’ depth chart, on some oddsboards. In fact, the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook offers both players at 100/1 odds. Brissett is 150/1 at FoxBet.

It’s clear the Colts’ intention is to start Rivers, but Austan Kas at Number Fire notes Brissett’s performance in 2019 dropped off dramatically after he suffered a knee injury in Week 9 and writes, “if the first eight weeks was the real Brissett, then maybe Indy didn’t need to go sign Rivers.”

It wouldn’t shock to see Frank Reich make a mid-season switch if Rivers isn’t effective. The Colts could also trade Brissett, but a deal to New England – which would make his triple-digit odds in the MVP market awfully tempting – appears less likely as the Patriots add QBs to their roster, most recently former Colt Brian Hoyer.

Here are odds for the top 15 betting choices on DraftKings’ MVP board.
