Joe Burrow is the clear favorite to earn offensive rookie of the year honors this season. Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert are underdogs to start for their respective teams in Week 1. Those are just a few of the takeaways from a glance around the betting market a few days after the 2020 NFL Draft.
Burrow is the +250 chalk (bet $100 to win $250) on the offensive rookie of the year oddsboard at FanDuel, a less-than-enticing price given the situation quarterbacking the Bengals presents. Tagovailoa is the only other QB listed with single digit odds (8/1), and while the top of the draft was devoid of running backs, oddsmakers are dealing three players from that position at less than 10/1 – the Chiefs’ Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Lions’ D’Andre Swift and Colts’ Jonathan Taylor. The solid wide receiver class is also well represented.

Players listed at FanDuel at 20/1 odds or shorter
Chase Young, who the Redskins took with the No. 2 overall pick, is the +350 favorite for defensive ROY, followed by the Cardinals’ Isaiah Simmons (+850). Lions cornerback Jeff Okudah, the No. 3 overall pick, is the co-fifth betting choice at 21/1 odds.
Odds to be Week 1 starter
While Tagovailoa and Herbert were selected by the Dolphins and Chargers with the Nos. 5 and 6 picks, respectively, neither is expected to get the starting nod when the season begins.
These odds from DraftKings and FanDuel provide examples of why it’s important for bettors to shop for the best prices.
Odds to be Dolphins’ Week 1 starter
Odds to be Chargers’ Week 1 starter
While Newton is offered in DraftKings’ Chargers market, the Patriots are the -190 favorite at FanDuel to have the former Panthers QB on their roster at the start of the season; the Chargers are not listed among the betting options in FanDuel’s Newton market.
Joe Burrow props
With Burrow figuring immediately into the Bengals’ plans, oddsmakers have posted props on the No. 1 overall pick’s 2020 production.
His passing yards total is 3,850.5 at DraftKings and 3,799.5 at FoxBet, offering a skinny arbitrage opportunity. His passing TD total is 21.5 at DraftKings, while FoxBet has a one-way prop (which typically don’t carry much value), offering 3/1 odds on Burrow tossing at least 25 touchdowns.
